Newsquawk Week Ahead: 26th-30th May 2025
US equities turned lower in afternoon trading, with the S&P 500 falling 0.8% and on track to snap its six-day winning streak.
The Nasdaq slipped 0.9%, while the Dow Jones lost 250 points.
The pullback followed a recent rally driven by easing trade tensions and investor optimism surrounding President Trump’s proposed tax and tariff policies.
However, growing concerns that investor relief over cooling inflation and trade progress may be premature weighed on sentiment.
A selloff in big tech dragged the market lower, with Alphabet slipping during its Google I/O event and additional losses in Nvidia, Meta, Apple, and Microsoft.
Tesla stood out as a rare megacap gainer, rising 2% after Musk reaffirmed his commitment to remain CEO for the next five years.
Caution also grew amid mixed earnings from Home Depot and renewed warnings from JPMorgan and Fed officials, including St. Louis Fed President Alberto Musalem, who noted that tariffs could pressure the economy and inflation outlook.

But do not fall for it just yet – there is always something that will force it into consolidation or correction. So be cautious and watch your step.

Wall Street opens with gains as US-UK finalize trade deal, tech stocks rally
Wall Street saw optimism in early trade on Thursday, May 8, after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the U.S. and U.K. have agreed on a trade deal.
At 7.20 pm IST or 9.50 am ET, the Dow Jones index was higher by 185 points or 0.45 percent, the tech-heavy Nasdaq index gained 100 points or 0.55 percent, while the broader S&P 500 index ticked up 25 points or 0.45 percent.

The U.S. President will reveal further details at 10 am ET. Trump also added that there are more deals, which are in serious stages of negotiation.
Tech stocks gained on Wednesday following reports that the Trump administration plans to roll back upcoming AI chip restrictions introduced under the Biden administration. The controls were set to take effect later this month.
Chipmakers led the rally, with Intel jumping 3.3 percent, AMD rising over 3 percent, and Nvidia edging up 0.5 percent. Among megacaps, Meta and Amazon gained more than 1 percent, while Tesla surged more than 3 percent.

Nvidia – NVDA
If Nvidia closes like this tonight, we would have a Pattern calling for next leg Up and strong – tomorrow.
It might even be with the gap to the topside.
Be aware – if it doesn’t take and break 115.40 , all bets are off !
Target of this expected move Up is at 122.20 – Downtrend resistance line dating from January this year.

Nvidia – NVDA
Seems as Nvidia is slowly escaping the big downward pressure.
It has to hold on above 110.00 for more gains.
Below it there is another one at 100.00, but that development would not only slow down Nvidia, but put it in danger of continuing this cascade style downtrend.
Resistance lies at 121.50 and if that one taken out, we’ll be seeing some serious levels soon after.
