Market Update: FX tug-of-war
EURUSD (higher on the day but failed in test above 1.12) and USDJPY (bid back above 158 but well below its overnight high) as EURJPY firms but below key resistance (see chart)
With US yields off earlier lows but still down on the day (note bounce in crude), it may be a wait-and see day ahead of tomorrow’s CPI.

NAS100 4 HOUR: Still on the defensive
Lower since the 31385 high has put NAE100 more on the defensive but with some caution given its history of short-lived retracements followed by new highs.
With that said, 30505 (on this CFD chart) needs to be regained, then the trendline broken to cool off the risk and then above 31079 to negate it or risk is for 30100-252 on thisa chart.

US500 (SP500) 1 HOUR: 6 days in a row
Consolidating around 7800, which has traded 6 days in a row.
Last time this happened Was around 7700 (before a breakout to the upside) but 7800 is a more significant level so stay on guard for a directional move when this pattern breaks.
Test may come in the reaction to Wed’s CPI. Wide range 7776-7839/45.

JPM Chase earnings miss
JPMorgan Chase & Co. (JPM) Q3 2026 (USD): EPS 5.57 (exp. 5.93), Revenue 50.2bln (exp. 51.23bln)

USDJPY 4 HOUR: Conspiracy theory
As noted yesterday, the break of a 7 day pattern around 158 would normally be taken as a bullish signal but these are not normal times given the threat of BoJ intervention.
Conspiracy theory: If I was the BoJ I would have taken advantage of the dip in US yields and softer USD to give USDJPY a nudge to run stops below 158 (low 157.75).
In any case, if it was the BoJ, then job half done in cooling but not negating the upside risk,

Market Update: Fickle convictions
Bond yields down => stocks (led by NAS) initially down => USD down (stocks currently off the lows but yields still down as curve flattens). Crude oil is down on the day after firming yesterday.
EURUSD: 2-day double bottom just above 1.1150 but upside so far contained below 1.12 and 1.1217 resistance.
US500 back above 7800 (and NAS bounced off low as well).
Price action suggests fickle convictions as markets await US CPI on Wed.

COMING UP: Data: Japanese PPI (Sep), German Final Inflation (Sep), US ADP Employment Change Weekly, Existing Home Sales (Sep). Events: RBA Minutes; OPEC MOMR. Speakers: US President Trump; BoE’s Greene; ECB’s Elderson, Lane; Fed’s Waller, Barkin, Collins. Supply: Australia, Netherlands, Italy, Germany. Earnings: UnitedHealth, JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, Wells Fargo, Citi, Johnson & Johnson.
Market Close: Indices BAS100 leading, US500 lagging
US500 clinging to a bid above 7800 with 7776 needing to hold to keep the focus on 7800+, below puts 7732 on the radar. NAS100: More vulnerable with lower highs and dependent on 30567 (on this CFD chart) holding to prevent momentum building for a run at 30100-250.
