Reaction to CPI will be more important than the headline so keep a eye on how US bonds trade for a clue. In FX, watch EURUSD 1.12 as an indicator In stocks (up ahead of data), watch reaction to US500 7800 and NAS100 30500 as indicators

XAUUSD (GOLD) 4 HOUR: Waiting for CPI

As noted, failure to break 4227 has sent XAUUISD back into a 4100-4200 range where 4150 (the level to watch after US CP{I) will set its tone. Only a break of the lower end (4100-05) would put the 4066 low back in play.

Marlet Update: 2 fynding currenciues

USDJPY holding a bid while above 158 but faces resistance at 158.75 and threat of intervention should momentum pick up.

USDCHF trading with a bid but would need to get through .8350-80 (.8348-82) for momentum to accelerate to the upside.

US500 extended trade around 6700 to 6 days in a row. KLey range: 7776-7539, WIDER 7732-7845

NAS100:  Extended low but paused above 30100-250. To cool the risk, a move through the trendline and and then 31078 would be needed.

USDCAD trying to follow firmer crude oil  but finding support above 1.4200 although straight line move down has turned it defensive.

Market Update: FX tug-of-war

EURUSD (higher on the day but failed in test above 1.12) and USDJPY (bid back above 158 but well below its overnight high) as EURJPY firms  but below key resistance (see chart)

With US yields off earlier lows  but still down on the day (note bounce in crude), it may be a wait-and see day ahead of tomorrow’s CPI.

NAS100 4 HOUR: Still on the defensive

Lower since the 31385 high has put NAE100 more on the defensive but with some caution given its history of short-lived retracements followed by new highs.

With that said, 30505 (on this CFD chart) needs to be regained, then the trendline broken to cool off the risk and then above 31079 to negate it or risk is for 30100-252 on thisa chart.

US500 (SP500) 1 HOUR: 6 days in a row Consolidating around 7800, which has traded 6 days in a row. Last time this happened Was around 7700 (before a breakout to the upside) but 7800 is a more significant level so stay on guard for a directional move when this pattern breaks. Test may come in the reaction to Wed’s CPI. Wide range 7776-7839/45.
