Bitcoin price volatility is hotting up as TradFi markets return, data from Cointelegraph Markets Pro and TradingView reveals.
Fed rate-cut talk dominates
This week should see the US Federal Reserve cut interest rates for the first time in 2025.
Markets anticipate that Wednesday’s meeting of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) will yield a rate cut of 0.25%. Data from CME Group’s FedWatch Tool even sees a slight chance of a larger 0.5% cut.
The Fed faces a balancing act of hot inflation markers and deteriorating labor-market conditions, and is expected to quote the latter as a basis for the rate cuts.

FX option expiries for 15 September 10am New York cut
There is arguably just one to take note of on the board for the day, as highlighted in bold below.
That being a large one for EUR/USD at the 1.1690 mark. It isn’t one that ties much to any technical significance, but alongside some near-term support close to 1.1700 it could at least limit any downside extensions in the session ahead. But otherwise, I don’t see much of any impact from the expiries above with the dollar still keeping more tepid since last week.

USD/JPY: Dollar Struggles to Break Consolidation Near ¥148
Key points:
·        Dollar’s been steady for weeks
·        Fed decision looms Wednesday
·        Can lower rates knock the dollar?
Dollar-yen has been range-bound for weeks. But the quiet comfort may not last much longer. It’s Fed week.
The USDJPY pair was unbothered and treading water on a Monday morning full of comfort, peace, and tranquillity. The feeling isn’t new. The US dollar entered into a comfort zone near ¥148 in early August and has been quietly floating inside the edges of a very horizontal trend, it’s not even funny.
But that sideways bliss may be in its final days with a big event right around the corner. The US Federal Reserve will test the dollar-yen when it announces its interest rate decision on Wednesday.
And by the looks of it, things are going to get volatile. Not just in this pair, but in every major market out there. Stocks, crypto, bonds, forex.
Forex speculators are already pricing in the cut (and so are other market bros). An expected 25 basis points are likely to get trimmed off the current 4.5% interest rate level. That’s the general consensus after the latest inflation data showed prices advanced inline with estimates, up 2.9% in August.

THIS WEEK’S MARKET-MOVING EVENTS (Econoday)
The global economy faces a critical week as policymakers, markets, and industries brace for new data releases and central bank decisions. The U.S. Federal Reserve’s September 16–17 FOMC meeting is the centerpiece, with markets widely expecting a 25-basis point interest rate cut—the first since November 2024. This comes amid criticism that the Fed has been slow to respond to economic signals like the substantial downward payroll revision from March and persistent inflationary pressure driven in part by tariffs. The Fed’s updated economic projections may show weaker growth and higher unemployment, and Chair Jerome Powell is expected to face intense scrutiny during his post-meeting press conference.
In Europe, attention turns to the economic fallout of recent U.S. tariffs, especially on Swiss exports facing a steep 39% duty. While Swiss watch exports spiked ahead of the tariff implementation, August data will reveal how sustainable demand is under the new trade regime. The EU’s trade terms with the U.S. remain politically unpopular, and economic sentiment continues to erode in Germany. Despite weak inflation, the ECB held rates steady last week, signaling a growing readiness to cut if economic conditions worsen. Meanwhile, Asia-Pacific economies—particularly China—continue to show signs of strain under global trade tensions, with China’s August data expected to show muted retail sales and industrial production. Japan, Taiwan, and Australia will also report key figures, with most central banks likely to maintain current policy amid economic uncertainty.
