U.S. Threat to Blockade Hormuz Sets Up Risky New Showdown
Move sets off a high-stakes war of attrition that will test who has the higher threshold for pain—Tehran or global markets
Market Update
Gaps: Oil (up), USD (up) Stocks (down) Gpld (down)

XTIUSD (WTIUSD) 4 HOUR
Higher gap open puts bulls back in charge but given so many headline whipsaws, there mat be some caution chasing too far waiting to see how events unfold.
Chart: While key supports are at 102.86 and 95.51, $100 is more important in keeping the bid and risk back on the upside where geopolitics will dictate how far it can run.

Vance, Pakistan PM hold bilateral meeting as US, Iran negotiators prepare for ceasefire talks
BTCUSD (BITCOIN) DAILY
Momentum tilting up with a bid as long as 70K+ trades but…
… while everyone seems to be talking about 75K, it is the 76K level that holds the key to whether this is just a swing in the range or whether there will be more to it.
Otherwise, watch the risk on/off mood as this seems to be driving the direction.

Brent vs WTI: Which Crude Oil Benchmark Should Traders Follow in a Volatile Global Market?
The global oil market has entered a highly event-driven phase, leaving traders questioning whether Brent or WTI crude should serve as the primary benchmark. Traditionally, Brent crude has been viewed as the global pricing standard, while WTI has reflected U.S. domestic conditions. However, recent geopolitical and supply dynamics have blurred these distinctions, making the choice far less straightforward. With the price of oil driving all global markets, choosing the benchmark to follow is important for all global traders.

This caught my eye as there will be relief if both sides keep talking…but if not…
WSJ’s Norman says “There is no way Iran and the US are going to resolve the issues around Hormuz, nuclear, missiles etc in the next 2 weeks. But it doesn’t need to happen. What needs to happen is enough to trigger mutually agreed extension of talks”

SHould not be a surprise=…but oil slides… modest ripple effect elsewhere

If you look at a EURUSD or GBPUSD chart you would say the USD is trading offer. BUT iif you looked at a JPY, AUD, NZD and CAD chart you might say otherwise.
This suggests market today is more about position adjustments rather than a bet on weekend peace talks
Note US stocks slipping as oil blips and defense takes over ahead of the weekend.

Below 1.1720 would be needed to cool the upside, below 1.1710 needed to shift focus back to 1.17

Earlier in the week markets were trading on hope and got their wish with the ceasefire (if you can call it one).
Today it feels like a better risk mood is being driven by a lack of risk sellersthan betting on US-Iran talks.
