Market Update: Summer Friday trading
What caught my eye is EURUSD testing both sides of its range, running into sellers on top and buyers at the bottom rather than typical stops.
With US yields moving up, downside should be more at risk but only if there are stops to run.
If not, then it will be a dull end to a summer Friday.
Same for US stocks while above earlier lows.

Forex Market Snapshot
The dollar seems set to end the week on the defensive as it trades lower ahead of the US open. US bond yields have steadied and stocks are up but talk the U.S. fiscal position, with the total deficit surpassing $40 trillion grabbing headlines and rising, is acting as a weight on the dollar.

US bond yields dip… ripple effects elswewhere (USD dips, stocks blip)
US Treasury is increasing the size of nominal long-end; by at least double the size of liquidity support buyback operations for longer-dated nominal coupon securities, from the current USD 2bln to at least USD 4bln. As of September 9th.
“Treasury will provide more information about future buyback sizes at the next Quarterly Refunding, scheduled for November 4, 2026.”
“This increase in buyback operation sizes reflects Treasury’s desire to provide greater liquidity support in longer-dated nominal sectors where there is consistent strong sponsorship from market participants, as evidenced by the significant volume of high-quality offers Treasury routinely receives in longer-dated buyback operations.”

Market Update: OIl up, no big ripple effects
USDCAD back below 1.3950 (holding above 1.3925, next target still 1.3900) as it follows firmer crude oil. Forex trading mixed despite higher bond yields, JPY remains the underperformer, firmer GBP outperforms, EURUSD unable to shake a focus from 1.1550
US stocks on sidelines holding a bid but consolidating.

World’s biggest chipmaker TSMC’s sales surge 45% amid buoyant AI demand

Even though it allowed Wall Street stocks to clock another record high on Friday, the surprise drop in July U.S. payrolls didn’t shift interest rate markets as much as the initial gasp might have suggested.
Markets are still pricing in a roughly 50-50 chance of a Federal Reserve rate rise next month, while Treasury yields ended only marginally lower on the day….full story on Reuters Morning Bid U.S.

Mid-day U.S. Market Update
Heading into the weekend traders likely to end it on a cautious note with firmer crude oil indicating geopolitical risk vs. weaker US data, the latter not enough to see follow through on the initial dip in yields (wider yield curve)
For FX traders, 1.1550 so far keeping a bid but needing 1.1560+ to encourage higher.
As indicated earlier, stocks consolidating but maintaining a bid while above 7700 (and NAS above 29K).

US500 (SP500) 4 HOUR: Range time?
While calling for a top in US stocks has eventually turned out to be a losing bet, the one way move in US500, at a minimum, argues for a pause, at least as long as 7800 caps the upside. If this proves to be the case, then charts show a 7600-7800 range where 7700 could be pivotal in setting the trading tone. Moves on the dsownsisde should be treated as retracements, at least as long as the trendline holds.

Forex Market Snapshot
The forex market has taken a back seat to the surge in stocks, sharp drop in crude oil (although off its lows), lower bond yields and today’s spike higher in gold. This has seen the dollar trade mixed and so far in tight ranges )(NZD the underperformer)..
Worth noting is USDJPY consolidating and trying to hold a bid in the absence of BoJ intervention but remains just below 157.98 (200 day mva)
